"The reservior that flooded the original location of this town is named after the town. Lake Dillon, huge and very deep, is Denver's H2O IV bag.
The most important landmark building that was moved from old Dillon to higher ground is the Arapahoe Cafe & Pub, owned and operated ny Doug Pierce and family. Outside and in, the building shouts friendly ambiance.
Arapahoe's full service breakfast, lunch and dinner menu features home-style cuisine that is widely known as the best good eats in the Rockies. They say, be sure to "Ask us what Doug's been smokin'." And I can testify that whatever Doug's been smokin' will not disappoint you.
The barbecued pork spareribs we were served today by Doug himself were spot on up there with the best we've ever eaten.
Doug's barbecue is so popular that he, with partner Julie Willing, known as the "Da Boss", opened a new Bonnie Q BBQ Roadhouse Room & Catering Company last year. It is named after Doug's daughter, Bonnie.
They have competed in Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned contests in Frisco and Dillon for almost two decades, bringing home numerous awards. Their competition barbecue expertise stands out in what they serve in the Cafe, Roadhouse and catering gigs. It rocks!
We fly from Denver to home in KC tiommorow. Hats off to the pitmasters of Colorado!

"My name is Ed Sircy and I’m a “Q” addict. I’ve had the good fortune of enjoying Bar-B-Q in 38 of the 50 states, (including Hawaii) and I’m sure my DNA would test with a bit of “Q smoke.” During a recent visit to Dillon, CO. I sampled the BBQ at the Arapahoe Café and if you are in a ten county, hell, for that matter, a ten state area it’s worth the drive!
Pit boss Doug Pierce does some kind of magic when he loads his smoker with pecan wood, mounds of pork shoulders, and slabs of pork ribs. Just the right amount of smoke flavor and tenderness that results in outstanding “Q”!
My wife and I have dined at the café five times during our fifteen day visit and a slab of Doug’s ribs will be in the car with us when we head back to Dallas. By-the-way, best damn corn beef hash I’ve ever had anywhere…and I spend a lot of time in Brooklyn so I know my hash."

"Hi Julie & Doug, I just wanted to thank you again for the amazing job you did for our wedding Oct. 15th. The guests couldn’t have been happier with the food and all said it was amazing! Also the way the food was set up and taken down was perfect. The plates, utensils, table cloths/napkins all worked great! Your staff was also very friendly and helpful, which we really appreciate! Thank you again!"

"Just wanted to let you know how happy we were with the catering at Silas and Amanda's rehearsal dinner last week at the Dillon Marina. Fantastic food, wonderful people and not even a blink when the rain/wind moved in for a brief period. You are pros and it showed. Thanks so much for helping to make this such a wonderful, memorable weekend!
~Joan Campbell
p.s. the leftovers were great, too! Many happy people to see those sandwiches appear!

Dear "Cafe", We visited you for the first time Saturday and were thrilled with your beautiful flowers!!! This was the best cared for planters, pots and gardens we've seen anywhere and you are hereby congratulated on providing such a wonderful atmosphere for your guests! The food was also very delicious, especially the home made potato salad and we are very pleased to have discovered a treasure, such as your establishment near our home in Lakewood. Please recognize whoever does such a wonderful job on your flowers!
